4. Experiences

Creating Your Experiences

An Experience allows you to have unique settings per experience. For example, you can have a Vive Experience and Windows Mixed Reality Experience. Having multiple Experiences is optional so you are welcome to house all stations, regardless of the type of headset, under one experience if you so choose.

  • NOTE: Experiences need to be created before Stations.
  • NOTE: Stations can only be assigned to 1 Experience at a time. Stations cannot be used for multiple Experiences.

Education_Location_Experiences.png

  1. Click on your location in the left panel then navigate to the “Experiences” tab.
  2. There will be a Default Experience located here.
  3. Click on the Default Experience and edit the information for your location.
  4. Go to the Launcher Settings tab to see the Launcher Home Screen Content Layout which offers a few different options to choose from. These settings determine how the content list will appear in the Launcher. Pick which categories you want students to see in your content list home screen in the SpringboardVR environment.
    • Trending Titles - The trending titles in your Content Library.
    • New Releases - The newest content you've added to your Content Library.
    • Difficulties - Easy, Medium & Hard categories will be displayed on your home screen.
      • If off, students will still be able to filter by difficulty in the left panel of the user interface.
    • Tags - All the tags will be displayed on your home screen.
      • If off, students will still be able to filter by tag in the left panel of the user interface.
  5. See these Educational Assets for Branding & Launcher Announcements Best Practices.
    • NOTE: The logo that is uploaded for the Landscape Launcher Billboard will be cropped and used in the system button overlay within the Launcher when no title is being played.
  6. The Content Ratings are optional.
    • If on, students will be asked to rate content (good or bad) when they are done playing.
  7. Next, go to the "Hours" tab and set your Lengths of Time and Available Hours for your Experience. Lengths of Time & Available Hours are required for each Experience in order to access the Station Monitor. It is important to fill out these options whether or not you use the Online Reservation system.
    • Custom Hours and the additional settings under Options are not required and only relevant if you are using the booking widget.
  8. Select "Save" at the bottom of the screen when you are done.
  9. If you want to create a new Experience, click on the "New Experience" button and repeat the steps above.

Creating Your Stations

Education_Location_Stations.png

  1. Next, click on your location and navigate to the "Stations" tab.
  2. Click on "New Station" to create your stations for your location.
  3. Fill out the Station Basics information.
    • NOTE: Stations can only be assigned to 1 Experience type at a time.
    • There are three options for Idle Mode:
      • Off: The station will not do anything when the headset goes idle. It will simply display like normal.
      • Videos: A video reel of content you have on your station will display in a loop.
        • If Videos is selected a volume slider will appear to the right. From here you can adjust the default volume for the video reel. By default the volume is set to 50%.
      • Desktop: The desktop will appear on your display.
  4. Next you will find the Additional Options for the Station.
    • Reservations Enabled is selected by default. This setting allows the station to be reserved online via the Widget.
    • Default Dashboard Elements is deselected by default. When enabled, this options allows for the default overlays, such as the SteamVR overlay, to appear when hitting the System Button on the controller.
      • We suggest leaving this deselected to keep your students from accessing the computer, turning off SteamVR, or exiting SpringboardVR.
    • Theme Park Mode is deselected by default. It enables keyboard shortcuts that can stop and start a title.
    • Timer Enabled means a session must be running to start a title. If the timer is disabled, you will not need an active session on the station to launch content.
    • Launcher Content Preview Enabled allows the content to appear in the Launcher Environment with no time added to the station. If Disabled, no content will appear until time is added.
      • We suggest leaving this feature enabled so your students can browse your titles before their time starts.
    • Launcher Enabled means you are utilizing the launcher for starting content. If disabled, content must be remotely launched from the Station Monitor.
    • If enabled, Quit Content When Play Time Is Up will quit the currently running title when time runs out and will return to the Launcher environment.
  5. Once you have set up your Additional Options click "Save."

7. Desktop Client

Installing the Desktop Client

The term Desktop Client is new and might be confusing to some. Check out this article in our Knowledge Base that breaks down what the Desktop Client is.

NOTE: Installing the Desktop Client will have to be done on each individual computer you plan to run SpringboardVR on. SpringboardVR will only install on the disk and partition you installed Windows on so make sure you have 3.5GB available before installing.

Education_Location_Stations.png

  1. First, you need to download the Desktop Client for your VR PC. To do so log into your SpringboardVR account, navigate to the "Stations" tab and click "Install Desktop Client" at the top of the page.
    Education_Stations_Install_Desktop_Client.png
  2. Once you have downloaded the Desktop Client file, find it in your downloads folder and run it by double-clicking it.

NOTE: Anti-virus software besides Windows Defender (AVG, Avira, Norton, etc.) will cause problems when installing SpringboardVR. Permanently disabling or deleting the program will allow SpringboardVR to run fine but otherwise connection errors will occur.

  • If a Windows Defender dialog appears click "More Info," then "Run Anyway."
  • If a Windows Firewall dialog appears click "Allow Access."
  1. The Setup will automatically begin installing the Desktop Client and start it up when it is done.
    • A progress indicator will show up to indicate the installation is still in progress – wait for it to disappear.
  2. On (automatic) startup of the Desktop Client a dialog box will appear asking you to log into your SpringboardVR account on this station. These are the same login credentials you use to sign into your SpringboardVR account online. After you successfully do so, choose the station you're on in the next dialog.
    • For example: If you are at your HTC Vive 1 station, select HTC Vive 1 from the list to run the setup. It is very important you select the correct station.
  3. Once a station is selected the Desktop Client is fully installed and running. You can find the Desktop Client as a tray icon in the Windows taskbar's system tray in the bottom right. Depending on your Windows settings you can find the icon by clicking on the arrow pointing up in your Windows taskbar.
    Location_Operator_System_Tray.png
  4. Now that the Desktop Client is installed you can move on to adding content to your Library.

8. Adding Content To Stations

Assign Titles To Your Stations

Now that you have added content to "My Library" you can assign titles to your stations. There are two different ways to assign content to stations.

ASSIGNING MULTIPLE TITLES TO ONE STATION

These steps are best used if you have multiple new titles and want to assign them to a specific station.
Education_Location_Stations.png

  1. Click on the “Stations” tab then click “Edit” next to the station you want to assign content to.
  2. Select the “Content” tab up top of the page.
  3. You can use the search box to look for a specific title you wish to enable or disable on the station as well as scroll through the list of titles. You can also use the dropdown menu to filter the titles to see what is and is not assigned to the station.
    Location_Operator_Station_Add_Content.png
  4. Toggle on the titles you would like enabled on the station.
    • NOTE: If the title you enable is on SpringboardVR's one-click system and is not already installed, it will install to the computer after you save the page.
    • NOTE: If the title utilizes Steam keys, was directly purchased on Steam or is manually added content you will have to manually install the title on the computer.
      Education_Station_Content_Toggles.png
  5. If you wish to unassigned a title, turn the toggle off next to the title you want removed.
    • NOTE: If the title you are removing is on SpringboardVR's one-click system, you will be asked if you just want to disable the title from the launcher or if you want uninstall it from the computer.
      Location_Operator_Station_Content_Warning.png
    • NOTE: If the title utilizes Steam keys, was directly purchased on Steam or is manually added content and you want to disable and uninstall it, you will need to remove the content manually from your computer.
  6. Additionally you can edit information for titles from this page. Click on the edit icon next to the title you want to update and it will open the title's page in a separate tab.
    Education_Station_Content_Edit.png
  7. Make sure to click “Save” before leaving the page.

ASSIGNING CONTENT TO MULTIPLE STATIONS

These steps are best used if you have added a new title to your Library and want to assign it to multiple stations at once.

Education_Content_My_Library.png

  1. Select "My Library" in the navigation menu, then click “Edit” next to the title you want to assign to you stations.
  2. Each title may have a different process for being assigned to a station depending on which installation option it utilizes.

For SpringboardVR One-Click Titles:

  1. Click on the toggle to enable the content to the desired stations.
    • Enabling the title allows it to be viewed and started from the Launcher menu.
    • This will also download the content to the station after you click "Save" if you have not already installed the title.
  2. If you wish to disable the content from the station turn the toggle off.
    • You will see a pop-up message asking if you want to disable and uninstall the title or just disable it from being seen in the Launcher.
      • If you select "Disable" it will stay installed on your station’s computer but will be removed from the Launcher.
      • If you select "Disable & Uninstall" the content will be removed from the Launcher and will begin uninstalling from your computer.
  3. Don't forget to click "Save" at the bottom of the page or your changes will be lost.

For Steam Key, Purchase on Steam, & Manually Added Titles:

  1. Use the toggles for the stations you want to assign the title to.
    • Enabling the title allows it to be viewed and started from the Launcher menu.
    • The title will be enabled on your Station after you click "Save". Remember to install the title on your computer.
  2. If you wish to disable the content from the station turn the toggle off.
    • Because it is not a SpringboardVR title, if you want it uninstalled it from your station’s computer, you will need to uninstall it manually.

ADDING CONTENT MANUALLY

You can add content you license from other sources, for example Steam, to your Library by using the "Add Content Manually" button.
Location_Operator_Adding_Content.png

  1. First, click on "Add Content Manually".
  2. From here you can either search our database for a preset for a title, or add it manually by creating a custom content entry.
  3. If you search for and find a title in the database:
    • Click "Add" and then select where you are licensing the title from.
    • Click "Add Content" to be taken to the titles' Content Details page in your Library.
    • The description, images, difficulty level, and more will be filled out automatically for titles with presets.
      • You may edit most of the fields on this page.
    • Click "Save" to add the title to your Library.
  4. If you do not find a preset for the title or want to create a custom content entry:
    • Click "Create Custom Entry".
    • Select where you are licensing the title from and click "Add Content".
    • Fill out the information for the title and click "Save" to add it to your Library.
      • For manually added titles you can upload your own videos and images.
      • Make sure you enter in the launch settings for the title.

9. Filtering Options

Editing the Filtering Options for the Launcher

The SpringboardVR Launcher allows your students to filter content to quickly find titles that interest them based on tags, difficulty level, and player number. For titles in our Marketplace the filtering options will be automatically filled in, but you can make changes to some of the options the Content Creators set.

Education_Content_My_Library.png

  1. First click "Edit" next to a piece of content in your "My Library".
  2. Select the "Content Details" tab at the top of the page.
  3. On this page you will see options to edit your Age Rating, Difficulty Level, Tags, and Number of Players.

AGE RATINGS

Age Ratings can be helpful for keeping younger students from viewing and playing more mature content. Once you set an age rating for your content or if it has one assigned by the Content Creator, you can control the age settings for your stations in the Station Monitor. This allows you to quickly switch from an adult playing mature or violent content, to an age restriction for a child who should not see that content in the Launcher.

If you do not wish to assign an age rating to a title, enter '0' into the age rating section of your content settings.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL

Each piece of content is also required to have a Difficulty Level. Students can filter by difficulty to determine if they want to try a hard title or stick with something more basic.

TAGS

It is very important that you assign tags to your content. These tags allow your students to filter through the content you have available based on their interests. If possible it's a good idea to have more than one tag per experience. Tags are fully customizable so you could use tags to classify content by subjects, grade levels, etc.

NUMBER OF PLAYERS

Player mode gives your students the option to filter through pieces of content that are single or multiplayer. This is very beneficial for groups who want to play multiplayer titles together.

  4. If you have left Launcher Content Preview Enabled on, content should be viewable from the Launcher, even without time being loaded into the station.
    • You will not be able to launch content until time is added.
    • Notice there is a Call for Help button on the pillars on each side of the content panel.
  5. Add time to your station via the Station Monitor and make sure everything is appearing correctly (content, time, tags, etc.).
  6. Use your controller to point at a title and pull the trigger. You will notice the content's description appears along with the option to go back or to launch it.
  7. Launch a title to ensure that it opens properly. After the title launches, press the system button and select “Switch Game.”
  8. You will now be brought back to the SpringboardVR environment where you can select a different piece of content.
